Speaker & MPs Angry as Local Gov't Ministers 'dodge' Urgent Questions

The Speaker and Members of Parliament are livid with the Local Government Minister and his deputies for disrespecting the House.

The three men have on three occasions refused to appear before the House to answer an urgent question in respect of the floods that claimed over 150 lives in Accra.

MP for Aburi-Nsawam OB Amoah wanted the minister and his deputies to explain to the House the circumstances under which the June 3 flood and fire disasters occurred and similar other floods across the country.

Ghana AIDS Commission Describes Dzidzor As Imposter

The Ghana AIDS Commission (GAC) is to investigate Ms Joyce Dzidzor Mensah (Nartey), an HIV and AIDS ambassador, to clarify her claims that she is HIV-negative.

The outcome of the investigation will inform the commission on any subsequent actions.

The investigation has become necessary after Ms Mensah had revealed at the weekend on several media platforms that she had never been infected with the virus, despite parading as a carrier for several years.

Hotline From Vodafone For Info About Ebola, Cholera scares

Vodafone Ghana, the telecommunication service provider through its Foundation has called on Ghanaians to call its HealthLine 255, a medical call centre, for information on Cholera and the Ebola Virus Disease.

The medical call centre, which is run by doctors and nurses, is powered by the world’s best triage system, which guarantees accurate medical advice.

The Bui Power Authority Has Denied a Golf Course

The Bui Power Authority (BPA) has denied it is building a golf course.

It said even though there was a plan for such a project, it formed part of the Bui City Concept project, where a golf course, a club house and a resort was expected to be constructed.

Even with that, it said the project was expected to be undertaken under a Public Private Partnership (PPP) agreement to which no funding has been allocated as of now.

Flood Waters Make Roads Inaccessible

The dawn to evening torrential rains in the capital Accra has made majority of the roads in the capital inaccessible.

There is heavy traffic in town. Distressed commuters tell Joy News vehicles have been stuck in chest-deep floods.

Greater Accra Regional Commander, DCOP Christian Tetteh Yohunu described Thursday’s rains as the “heaviest downpour in the past decades”.

Fraudsters: Car Dealers Arrested

Two suspected fraudsters arrested by the police

Two suspected fraudsters have been arrested by the police for having allegedly defrauded six people to the tune of GH¢100, 000 under the pretext of selling a car to them.

The suspects are Kwabena Boakye, 40 and Richard Osei Bonsu 41.

They were nabbed after several complaints had been lodged at the Odorkor District Police Command about their nefarious activities.

DSP Emmanuel Osei Agboda, Odorkor District Crime Officer, said the suspects have specific car garages that they operate at Odorkor, a suburb of Accra.

BREAKING NEWS: P.V. Obeng Has Died

Reports reaching us indicate that Paul Victor Obeng, chairman of the National Development Planning Commission has died.

The Senior Presidential Adviser died Saturday at a hospital after he reportedly collapsed at the Agape Filling Station at Spintex Road in Accra.

It is not yet clear the cause of death, even though sources suspect he died of a pronounced asthma attack.

He was said to have been rushed to the Lekma Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

PV Obeng was crucial in the organisation of the just ended National Economic Forum.

Last Victim Of Helicopter Crash Found (Photo)

The eighth victim of the fatal helicopter crash off the coast of Takoradi in the Western Region during a routine flight to an oil rig last week Thursday has been found.

The body of 30-year-old Walter Koblah Agortimevor, a drilling mud engineer was washed ashore at a high stage of decomposition.

He was part of an eight-member crew visiting a new rig which had arrived in the country to commence work for Lukoil.

Two Suspects In Trouble For Defrauding Supply Companies

The suspects: Saharatu Adams (L) and Moses Amanor

A man and his wife who are believed to have defrauded a nmber of companies in Accra, Axim and Madina to the tune of GH¢2 million have been arrested.

The suspects — Moses Amanor, 48, and his wife, Saharatu Adams, 38 — are said to have swindled the owners of the enterprises that deal in provisions.
